Friend had a hard time with this.
Director smiled and shook his head. "We can only do what we can do, Friend. I want to take you now to meet someone in trouble, someone I think you can help."
"I can help this person more than you can?"
"Yes, I believe that to be true."
"Why?"
"I think it likely you can understand this person better than I can."
"Because you've never wanted to commit suicide?"
Director shrugged.
"You're not saying?"
"No."
Friend frowned but picked himself up. "Well, that doesn't matter. I want to help. I want to learn."
"Suicidal people don't want to help, to learn - to do anything. Do they?" Director was grinning.
"No, they don't," Friend said with some satisfaction. He took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "You've helped me feel better about myself." He looked Director full in the face. "Thanks."
"You're the one who did everything. I was merely here to talk."
"That was enough."
"Well, let's see you do the same for someone else now. Once I make the introduction you're on your own."
"Time for me to go away to my own place of gray. And I won't be taking anyone with me."
