"What is a friend?" asked Friend.
"Why do you ask?"
"I no longer know."
"You don't know that I am your friend?"
"Do you know that I am yours?"
"You are."
"Well, I believe you are my friend," said Friend with a note of despair, "now that you are here in front of my eyes."
"But when we are apart you are torn by doubts?"
Friend nodded.
"What do I do that makes you doubt?"
"You say ambiguous things."
"Do they seem ambiguous at the time?"
"No."
"But then you go home and reflect on them and they do?"
"Yes."
"Friend, don't you know that anything can seem ambiguous if you take it from its context?"
"I suppose."
