"But wouldn't I want someone like that as my friend?"
"Maybe you need to stick with that person then," said Director. "And maybe that's not so bad a thing. Perhaps this person's friends won't be tedious, being true and all. Then all you would have to put up with is the one who loves you hanging on your every word."
Student chewed his lip a moment. "No, that's not so bad at all."
"Maybe you'll bring together your true friends with your lover's true friends, and maybe in time the lover's love for you will fade, leaving true, mutual feelings of friendship."
"That would be beautiful."
"But you have to be on your best behavior."
Student nodded.
"There's much that can go wrong."
"I know."
"You might even find yourself falling in love with this person."
Student swallowed. "That wouldn't be so bad."
Friend clapped Student on the back. "Just hope that you fall in love before your beloved's love for you fades."
"It would be terrible if I fell in love too late."
"Yes, and ironic."
"But be of good cheer, Student," said Director with a smile. "Not all love fades."
