"But if you're relaxed does that make you elegant?" asked Student.

 

"Not unless you want to call a wallowing pig elegant," said Worker.

 

"The elegant must think thoughts. What are they Director?"

 

"Sophisticated simplicity marks the elegant thought."

 

"How do you sophisticate simplicity?" asked Worker.

 

"It's the simple thought of one aware of the chaos and complexity of things."

 

"There's simple, and then there's simple," said Student knowingly.

 

"What about the opposite sort of thought, the rude?" asked Worker.

 

"That must be unsophisticated complexity, right?"

 

They both looked to Director.

 

"Precisely."

 

"So what does that make sophisticated complexity and unsophisticated simplicity?" asked Student.

 

"I think they are functions of synthesis and analysis," said Worker.

 

"Sophisticated complexity," said Director, "is political thought."

 

"And unsophisticated simplicity?" asked Student.

 

"It's a roll of the dice."

 

"What do you mean?"

 

"It's either foolishness or deadly."
