"Friend, you don't tweak your life enough," said Student.
Director tilted his head toward Friend. "Are you happy?"
"The happiest I've been," said Friend. "Why mess with success?"
"Because you can be even happier!" said Student.
"What do you think I need more of?"
"Variety," said Student decidedly.
"I don't like variety. I like the same things. I like the same food. I like the same songs. I like my routine.
"That is typical perfectionist behavior."
Friend shook his head resignedly. "What do I gain from variety?"
"Knowledge."
"Ha!"
"You laugh, but if you change the equalization on a song, for example, you might hear a whole new instrument you didn't even know was there buried in the mix. Don't you want to know what's there?"
"Not really," said Friend. "I am aware that there might be millions of microscopic organisms crawling on my skin right now, but I really don't want to know if they are there or not."
"You would if one of them were a deadly virus."
"I let the doctors worry about that. I have my own worries."
