"What prompted this?"
"My mother and I had a long talk," Dancer admitted with some reluctance.
"What did she have to say?"
"She pointed out, rightly, that I can't dance forever."
"But you can stay in the field. You'd make a great instructor."
"Who wants to be an instructor?"
"Why, being an instructor is an honor. Don't you want to be honored?"
Dancer laughed softly. "Vets are honored, too. And think of the look on kids' faces when I tell them that their pets are all better."
"You sound like you're trying to convince yourself."
"Honor's not the point."
"What is? The money?"
Dancer looked down and kicked some dirt. "Sure vets make more than what I do, but they don't make all that much."
"You're looking for job security?"
Dancer looked Director full in the face. "Stability."
"Oh. This isn't about dancing, or being a vet, or school - it's about your lifestyle, isn't it?"
Dancer kicked some more dirt and said nothing.
