"But don't the enigmatic want to be enigmatic?" asked Friend.
"The enigmatic learn to be content to be enigmatic to the opaque. But they don't want to be enigmatic to you, or at least they should learn not to want to be enigmatic to others of enigma."
"Why?"
"One wants to be understood, and accepted for what one is," said Director.
"But what if someone doesn't want to be understood, to be accepted for what he is?"
"Then we have a monstrosity. We have ego gone crazy."
"How do we prevent that?"
"I'm not sure it can be prevented. Often times when the signs are there to see it's already too late."
"What's to be done?" asked Friend.
"One can only hope to break through with clever guesses."
"On the basis of what?"
"One's own experience," said Director.
"Are the experiences of the enigmatic always the same?"
"Some of them are, but most of them are not."
"So we guess based on these few."
"Yes."
