Exhaustion
"That usually means," said Youth, "that they've had way too much by way of alcohol or drugs."
"True," said Director. "But sometimes it really just means they are exhausted."
"Physically or mentally?" asked Student.
"I think it's often both, my friend."
"Physical exhaustion is easy to understand. How do they get mentally spent?"
"Maybe they are taking in more than they can process," suggested Youth.
"What are they taking in?"
"I think it must be too many different people in too many different situations."
"What does that cause the mind to do?" asked Director.
"I think it tries to make sense of everything, to organize the experiences that confront it. And it gets overloaded."
"I wonder," said Student, "if that isn't what drives some of these people to excessive drink and drugs in the first place."
"I'm sure it does at times."
"So the only way to cure them," said Director, "is to isolate them, to give them rest from all the stimulus?"
"That's the only cure I can think of," said Youth.
"And once they are rested, can the return to the tour?"
"Won't they just have the same problem again?" asked Student.
